I fell in love with his Fall 2017 bridal, and I couldn't wait for the next collection. One might have thought that with the variety of materials, patterns, necklines, shapes, and designs, it would be impossible to create a fluid, concise collection that pleases the eye. He pulled it off though, and I'm sure there are thousands of people who would kill to get married in one of the beautiful designs of Elie Saab's Fall 2017 bridal collection. Personally, I'd kill just to see someone get married in one.

Each gown is beautifully unique and the essence of bridal beauty. The simplicity of the model's pose, the background, and the black and white color scheme allows the dresses to shine and draw the viewers eye. After such a fantastic, and truly awe-inspiring collection, I had high hopes for Spring 2018.
I was, of course, not let down. All of Elie Saab's creations are beautiful, especially those in his bridal collections, and Spring 2018 is no exception. Unfortunately, they fell short of the very high standard set by Fall 2017.

There is considerably less variety among the dresses, and (although their beauty and elegance is undeniable) they were presented in a less than ideal way. Since their styles and materials are all so similar, each dress blends into the other in the viewer's mind and the collection becomes a blur of different versions of the same dress. Saab also chose to accessorize the gowns significantly more than Fall 2017. When modeled with sunglasses and shawls, the eye's focus is drawn away from the dress and its details. Similarly, the stylistic choice was made to have the model slouch in many of the photos. This not only distracts the viewer, but also takes away from the elegance of the gown.
When each gown is carefully examined, its beauty and uniqueness becomes clear, but this is seen in Fall 2017 with no effort. The collection is hardly a failure, and is certainly one of my favorites, but it doesn't meet the standards Saab set for himself with his last collection. Nevertheless, I, and countless others, eagerly await Fall 2018 Bridal.
